Mylo Xyloto (pronunciado /ˈmaɪloʊ ˈzaɪlətoʊ/) es
el quinto álbum de estudio del grupo británico de Rock Alternativo Coldplay.
El álbum fue publicado el 24 de octubre de 2011.
El
primer sencillo de
este álbum, «Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall», fue publicado
el 3 de junio de 2011, y el segundo, titulado «Paradise», fue lanzado el 12 de septiembre
de 2011. El
tercer sencillo es «Charlie Brown», lanzado el
11 de diciembre de 2011, el 14 de abril se liberó su cuarto sencillo titulado «Princess of China»
y el 8 de octubre fue estrenado su quinto sencillo llamado «Hurts Like Heaven»

En octubre de 2011, Coldplay comenzó una gira por
diversos países europeos para promocionar Mylo Xyloto. La primera fecha
fue en Madrid, España el
26 de octubre, y
la última en Berlín, Alemania,
el 21 de diciembre. Posteriormente
Coldplay visitó Asia y
anunció fechas para 2012 en Norteamérica,
Europa y Australia.
Sencillos
«Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall», primer
sencillo del álbum, se lanzó para descarga digital el
3 de junio de 2011 en casi todo el mundo, excepto en Reino Unido,
lugar donde fue lanzado el 5 de junio del mismo año. La
canción debutó en el número veintinueve del Billboard Hot
100 en Estados Unidos, vendiendo 85 000 copias en su
primera semana. Su posición más alta en el Billboard Hot 100 fue
catorce. En
el Reino Unido, la canción tuvo mayor éxito comercial que en Estados Unidos, ya
que en junio de 2011 obtuvo la sexta posición en el UK Singles Chart.
El 12 de septiembre de 2011 se lanzó el segundo
sencillo del álbum, «Paradise». La
canción alcanzó la posición quince en el Billboard Hot 100 y llegó a la
primera posición del UK Singles Chart. Se
hicieron dos vídeos musicales para la canción; el primero dirigido por
Hype Williams y el segundo por Mat Whitecross.
El 18 de
Abril, la web oficial de Coldplay, dio a conocer que el día 21 de Abril el
sello discografico lanzara una serie limitada de discos de vinilo, para
celebrar y apoyar este año a Record Store Day. Una de esas versiones es de solo
7 pulgadas de las canciones Up With The Birds/UFO, de los cuales sólo 2.000
copias estarán en todo el mundo.

Xyloto Comics
Mylo Xyloto es un comic creado por
Coldplay y Mark Osbourne, (director de películas como
"Kung fu panda" o "Bob Esponja") en la concepción y escritura de la historia. Éste
ha declarado, en una nota de la discográfica EMI, que espera "que la gente
que ha escuchado el álbum encuentre muchas, muchas, conexiones".
El comic de seis partes, se publicó mensualmente a partir de febrero de 2013.
El hilo argumental del comic:
"Mylo es un joven 'silenciador' en primera línea del frente en una guerra
contra el sonido y el color en el mundo de Silencia. Sin embargo, descubrirá
que el enemigo al que toda su vida le han entrenado para odiar podría no ser
tan enemigo después de todo."
Coldplay es una
banda británica de pop rock formada
en Londres en 1996. El grupo está
integrado por Chris Martin (voz, teclado, guitarra), Jon Buckland (guitarra
principal), Guy Berryman (bajo eléctrico) y Will Champion (batería,
coros y otros instrumentos). Los primeros trabajos de Coldplay hicieron que la banda fuera
comparada repetidas veces con artistas como Oasis, Radiohead, INXS, U2 y Travis. Alcanzaron el éxito internacional con el lanzamiento
de su sencillo «Yellow»,
seguido por su álbum debut, Parachutes (2000), que fue nominado a los Premios Mercury. Su segundo álbum, A Rush of Blood to the Head(2002) ganó
múltiples premios, incluido el de Álbum del Año según el semanario NME. Pese a que su tercer
álbum, X&Y (2005)
no causó tanto entusiasmo, tuvo igualmente una recepción positiva. El cuarto álbum de estudio de la banda, Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends (2008) fue producido por Brian Eno y generó excelentes críticas, llegando a recibir
nominaciones a los premios Grammy y

millones de copias. Mylo Xyloto, su quinto disco, se lanzó en octubre de 2011 y tuvo una

Tras el lanzamiento de Parachutes, la banda recibió la influencia de otros artistas, tales
como Kate Bush, U2, George Harrison, y Muse en A
Rush of Blood to the Head, Johnny Cash en X&Y Blur y Arcade Fire en Viva la Vida. Coldplay ha sido siempre un
grupo defensor activo de varias causas políticas y sociales como la campaña de
Oxfam Make Trade Fair y Amnistía Internacional. Además han participado en
muchos proyectos de caridad como Band Aid 20, Live 8,
Sound Relief, Hope for Haiti
Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief y Teenage Cancer
